What is AdBlue?
AdBlue, a liquid urea solution, is injected upstream of a special catalytic converter in vehicles with SCR systems to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. There it reacts with the pollutants and converts them almost completely into water vapor and harmless nitrogen.
Is AdBlue dangerous or toxic?
AdBlue is not toxic, but it can irritate the eyes, skin and respiratory tract. Protective clothing is not necessary when refilling. In the event of skin contact, the liquid should be rinsed off with plenty of water. The urea has a corrosive effect on steel, iron, nickel and non-ferrous metals. Paint and plastics can also be damaged by prolonged exposure to AdBlue. Contamination should therefore be rinsed off immediately with plenty of water.
